Strange squeak when accelerating/letting off

Post by Rich_jc » Tue Apr 21, 2020 5:42 pm

Hi all,

I have an off chirp/squeaking noise which happens on the lightest throttle press for a second, then again when I let off. It only seems to happen when in gear as it doesn't occur in neutral.

The car is a 1.6 diesel 6 speed with 13k on the clock.

Any Google searches just beings up belt noises which I'm quite sure this isn't. The noise sounds like it's coming from deep in the dash but could be from the engine bay. It doesn't sound any clearer with the window open.

Any ideas anyone? I would pester honda but the dealership is closed for lockdown.

Thanks

Perhaps check the air induction pipe it could be the beginning of a split as seen on n some other cars, next thing will be warning lights on.

Hi Rich,
I had a similar issue to the one you are referring to early on the HRV life (approx 6 months old). Worth trying the following steps

Pop open your bonnet and on the left hand side (just above the screen wash bottle) there is an aircon pipe. Grab hold of this and move gently up and down and backwards and forwards (don’t over excert any force). You may now possible hear the chirping noise that you could hear whilst driving). If not repeat this step with the engine and aircon on (Normal engine temperature).

Please see pictures below. If you do hear this noise, I believe it’s the little clip holding the thinner pipe in the first picture.

Let us know if this was or wasn’t the issue. As temporary measure you can cable tie the two pipes together to stop or reduce the movement.

Seeonesukh you are a legend, this was indeed my issue. It was sending me barmy and was starting to think the worse (it only made noise in gear so I was fearing clutch/dmf related issues).

My pipe was adrift from the clip. Now back in, and the noise is all gone.

Thank you once again.

Richard

I feel your pain, it is such an annoying noise too.

Glad it helped and you got it sorted :D
