CVT Fluid Change

Post by dipstick » Sat Feb 08, 2020 5:51 pm

Has anybody changed their own CVT fluid ?

I have decided to do this myself and have bought the correct fluid (4 litres HCF-2)

Draining and level plug appears to be straightforward but access to the fill point looks difficult to say the least.

Has anyone else done this with any tips please ?

It looks to me that removing the air filter case would make access to the filler very easy.

Oh well ! I guess nobody has done it themselves. Should I post some instructions when I've done it ? or do you all want to use the garage ?

I'll be doing it as soon as I reach 25,000 and the weather is a bit dryer and warmer.

I'd like some help on posting pictures on here too, I've failed dismally so far.

Hi Dipstick,

No I haven’t changed the cvt oil myself yet as I have a 5 year servicing option. I’ve done an oil change on other cars though and find that a syringe with a flexible spout really useful. Sealey tools sell them .

Thank you Rich (I'm guessing you're Rich (in name))

The Sealey Tool you mention looks a great item, 500ml too, I guess not too bad for the whole compliment of 4 litres. The filler hole cap, is impossible to remove and replace without removing the air filter and it's casing etc, let alone fill there, now, I'm guessing that a garage would use the level check hole to refill the fluid after draining out the old. So maybe since the Sealey Syringe and the new fluid, total cost £35 is the way to go.

The new fluid arrived today so I will give it some more coats of looking at and thinking about, then, probably order a syringe and wait for a nice dry day. My wife says I'm getting too old for this sort of caper but I can't resist a challenge, and, I'm a very keen fluid changer. My father once said the cheapest spare you will ever buy for your car is a filter and a can of oil !

Kind regards

Peter D
