Voice on the satellite navigation system

Post by Doug2 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 9:29 pm

I have just purchased a hr-v 1.5 se cvt. So far so good but I can hardly understand a word the female voice on the sat nav says. I have been using a portable Tom Tom and was able to select the best voice for my, admittedly useless ears. To my surprise it was American male that calls a roundabout a rotary. It is a very clear voice that puts emphasis on important instructions. When the Garmin lady says “take the first exit” I can’t tell if she has said “first” or “third” so have to take my eyes off the road to glance at the screen. A lot of the time I don’t hear the name of the road that she says I have to turn into. The dealer said that I could change the voice from female to male but I can’t see how this can be done. Can anyone help please. If not I will have to stick my Tom Tom on the screen!

Previous- HR-V 1.5 I-VTEC EX. MAN. Sporty Blue.
Civic 1.8 I-VTEC EX. MAN. Alabaster Siver.

HOME > Navigation > Settings > Language and Keyboard > Voice Language

From there you can choose British English-Daniel or British English-Serena

Thanks for your advice. I have tried the sequence suggested but Daniel doesn’t come up. I get two options, British English or British English Serena. The voice sounds the same on both so I’ll see if the dealer can help.

And I really thought the advice to read the manual was very good, thank you so much for that.

I checked on mine and British English-Daniel doesn't appear either.

Unfortunately we are looking at Honda's implementation of Garmin on an outdated version of Android.

The languages databases are included in Garmin's updates (Voice, British-English, Daniel (TTS3) software version 2.20) but it is unlikely that the dealer will install these for you as there is a risk, albeit slight, that the system will fail to start after the update. The solution to that is to return the unit to Garmin and that is a risk that your dealer is unlikely to take.

Thank you ColinS. I’ll confront my dealer with this information. I’ll let you know what happens.
