All seasons tyres - HRV 1.5 Sport petrol manual

Post by POB123 » Mon Sep 30, 2019 7:39 am

Has anyone any experience of fitting 'all seasons' tyres to a 2019 HRV 1.5 Sport. This car is fitted with factory Michelin Premacy 3 Tyres - 225 50 18 but apart from an odd few makes none of the main tyre manufacturers make a tyre in this size for all year round use. The nearest fit is a 235 50 18 which Michelin and others make - will they fit without any problems?

Not had experience with this on the HR-V but the extra 10 mm width will make very little difference, other than offering a small protection to the rims. I fitted wider tyres to another car some years back (extra 10mm) and other than the extra grip found no adverse effects.

You may have issues with the deflation warning system, not only is the tyre wider, but it will also have a larger rolling circumference which is what the deflation warning system works on.

re-calibration would sort that out though, but it's unlikely, I alter my rear pressures from 30 to 38 for towing and if I forget to reset the TPW it doesn't seem to notice the change.

Many thanks for your replies and advice.

Sorted by my local tyre expert, Merrow Tyres of Farnham (Martin) via www.tiresize.co/comparison.

Excellent site and 215/55R/18 Michelin Cross Climate are on their way to be fitted.

I'm curious to why you're replacing tyres on a 2019 HR-V surely they are barely worn ?

Hi Martin,
Yes, they've only done 2000 miles but I live 400 ft ASL in rural Hampshire and I have a steep drive and plenty of hills to negotiate. It's quite amazing where you can get in winter with only 2WD and the right tyres! I know if there is any snow/ice that the present tyres will be hopeless.
Although this car is mainly driven by my wife, I don't want her phoning me to say she is stuck somewhere as she needs to get out even if it snows.
In addition the ride on Michelin Cross Climate is less harsh than on Premacy 3.
My own BMW 2 Series 2WD Gran Tourer 2 litre diesel also has winter boots.
Anyone want to buy 4 odd size (225/50/18) tyres?
Cheers

LOL! So you live 130 ft ASL higher than me, also rural Hampshire. Given the chances of poor weather I opt for snow socks should the need arise. Mind you when these are worn out the cross climate tyres will be the choice no doubt as we can sometimes have some iffy access to the caravan sites!

Having had no success on 'fleabay' due to, I think very few manufacturers fitting 225/50R18 tyres to their cars, anyone interested in 4 almost new Michelin Premacy 3's from a 2019 HRV 1.5 Sport Turbo - they are as new with a minimum of 6mm all round?

They are on 'fleabay' for £165 but no takers - make me an offer but you'll have to collect from near Odiham, Hants.

It's a shame they are 18" might have been interested and I'm only 3 miles from Odiham
