Hi,
I have also had this which happened a few weeks after a service. I think it might happen when the air filter cover was removed when being serviced - the movement causing a split in the hose that has become brittle after 4 years of heat...
My car has done about 80k and it’s the first real breakdown I have suffered, I taped mine up also and it has been OK for the last few months. I was holding out for a cheaper aftermarket hose😀

This is what I believe too. My car was just over 3 years old and 97,000 miles when this happened to me. The HRV has had 7 services done, all by Honda. 100k service is due next week, and again this has been the first break down for the Honda

Glad the photos helped another member here.....Maybe worth making this a sticky?

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to Seeonesukh!!!

I have had this issue for more than 6 months and have taken my vehicle to Honda on several occasions who diagnosed a faulty DPF, I was so close to spending thousands with them replacing the DPF however after reading several forums regards DPF systems I decided against it. I have been battling with this car and came across your forum last night. I have taken a look this morning and HEY PRESTO!"!! exact same split in the airflow pipe. I am so relieved.... I cannot tell you. Called Honda for a price they tried to convince me that it could not be the airflow, until I sent a picture that is!1

I also received a letter this morning from Honda recalling the vehicle for a faulty ECU which no doubt has added to this issue. :(

I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN

The trouble with fault finding these days is that techies are led by the warning lights which can display multiple warnings for the same fault. Techies are not able to relate these warnings to cause anymore as the reported faults can be a million miles away from the actual cause.
Hopefully things will get better as time goes on!

Cazza, glad it has helped and saved you a great expense too
Like I said in my post, the red herring was the low battery warning when code is read and hand brake light illuminated. The dealer technicians who repair vehicles only go by what the computer says these days - not all mind you 👍🏽

All manufacturer’s have issues. I had brand new mk6 Golf prior to this. Was I glad to see the back of it. The dealers were useless. Even with the high mileage on my Honda I plan to keep it another 2 years

If your vehicle is under 3 years old, Honda should foot the bill!

Exact same scenario on my 2016 HRV Ex 1.6 Diesel. Went into limp mode, handbrake, EP and engine management lights all flashing.
I googled it (there are so many faults with this car there’s always someone else in the same boat!)
Showed my husband the pictures and he had a look and it is indeed a split hose!
Saved us a lot of time and unnecessary diagnostic costs, thank you :D
